Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at First Christian Church in Dighton, Kansas with Reverend Howard Bever officiating.
Interment: Dighton Memorial Cemetery in Dighton, Kansas.


Sula Mae Quance, age 96, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at Scott County Hospital in Scott City. She was born August 15, 1912 in Chautauqua County, Kansas the daughter of Huey Reed and Francie Mae (Long) Green. Sula grew up in eastern Kansas near the Moline area. She moved with her family to Scott City where she attended her senior year at Scott Community High School, graduating with the class of 1931. Sula was the bookkeeper and cashier for Quance Super Market which she and her husband owned and operated until 1967. She later enjoyed riding with her husband when he trucked for Mumma Feed Yard. Sula also learned to drive the truck. She was very active in her church. She loved horses and had been an avid rider since her youth. She enjoyed playing golf, cards, her peonies, artwork and had a special fondness for cats. Sula was a member of the First Christian Church of Dighton, As You Like It Club of Dighton, American Legion #190 Auxiliary, and the Lane County Saddle Club.


Sula married B.W. (Bud) Quance on June 29, 1931 in Scott County. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2002.


Survivors include one son, C. Duane “Chet” and wife Janice Anne Quance of Dighton, Kansas.


Sula was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers, Harold Norton Green, Homer Franklin Green and Herbert Leroy Green; four sisters, Bula Opal Lambert, Eunice Cleo Jackson, Nellie Fae Lemmon and Delpha Dee Sparn.
