Visitation: 9:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday and from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday , at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin, Kansas.
Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M., Monday, February 28, 2011 at Lakin Assembly of God Church in Lakin, Kansas with Pastor Ralph Franco officiating.
Interment: Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas.


An evening service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Lakin Assembly of God Church in Lakin, Kansas.


Family request memorials be given to Lakin Assembly of God Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 91, Lakin, Kansas 67860.


Arturo M. Urteaga, 84 of Deerfield, Kansas died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at his home in Deerfield, Kansas. He was born on August 24, 1926 in Menard, Texas the son of Juan and Antonia (Martinez) Urteaga.


Arturo was born and raised on Menard, Texas. While living in Menard he traveled with his family as they worked as migrant field workers in Southwest Kansas; when returning to Menard, Arturo worked as a truck driver. On November 27, 1949 he married Amelia Hernandez in Menard, Texas. In 1965, Arturo and Amelia relocated to Lakin, Kansas and later to Deerfield, Kansas where he would remain. While living in Deerfield, Arturo worked for Garden City Co-op and retired in 1991. Arturo enjoyed attending church and his grandchildren’s functions and loved spending time with all of his family.


Survivors include three sons, Jesse Urteaga of Lakin, Kansas, Gilbert and wife Sherri Urteaga of Lakin, Kansas, Robert and wife Mary Urteaga of Amarillo, Texas; three daughters, Lois and husband Robert Oropeza of Deerfield, Kansas, Katie and husband Salvador Limon of Satanta, Kansas, Gracie and husband Leo Munoz; a nephew, Thomas Sanchez of Deerfield, Kansas; 22 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers Ralph, Manuel, George, and Frank Urteaga and John Black; and three sisters Lola Rodriguez, Consuelo Pena and Rosa Sanchez.
