Visitation: 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, with family present from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM May 18, 2010 at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas.
Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at First Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas with Pastor Ron Crosley and Pastor Gary Murrell officiating.
Interment: Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, Kansas.


John Maynard Ullom "Smilin Sam", age 75, died Saturday, May 15, 2010 in his home in rural Texas County, Oklahoma. He was born August 18, 1934 in rural Texas County, Oklahoma the son of John H. and Maureen (LaRue) Ullom.


Maynard graduated from Elkhart High School and was a lifetime farmer and rancher in Texas County, Oklahoma. He married Rhonda Faith Archer on November 22, 1959 in Guymon, Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas and Oklahoma Cattleman's Association. Maynard had a big heart and affectious smile. He loved playing tricks on friends and joking with them. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, traveling, hunting, giving hugs, and being a friend and a Daddy.


Survivors include one son, David Ullom of rural Texas County, Oklahoma; one daughter, Treva Jane Ullom of Overland Park, Kansas; one sister, Norma Jean O'Neal of Kansas City, Missouri; one grandson, Trevar John Mack "T.J." of rural Texas County, Oklahoma; two aunts, Wanda Thomas of Colby Kansas, Louise LaRue of Elkhart, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife on May 26, 2005.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Church of God music fund or the Trevar John Mack college fund both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elklhart, KS 67950.
