Obituary for Danny Tucker

Danny Tucker, age 64, of Johnson, Kansas died Friday, June 27, 2014 at his home in Johnson, Kansas. He was born March 9, 1950 in Syracuse, Kansas, the son of Lawson Glenn and Genevieve Irene (Hampton) Tucker.

Danny grew up in Johnson and was active in Boy Scouts and played sports and participated in the band. He graduated in 1968 from Stanton County High School. After school, he joined the Army. He served in the Vietnam Conflict and received two Bronze Stars, Oak Leaf Cluster, and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1971. On November 11, 1973 he married Sandy R. Gilbert in Johnson. They lived in Grove, Oklahoma and operated a cow-calf ranch until they moved back to Johnson in 1984. He was employed at Johnson Co-op Grain Company for many years. Danny was a member of Johnson VFW Post #3684.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy of their home; son, Eddie Tucker and wife Robin of Johnson, Kansas; daughters, Robin Cooper and husband Jason of Cañon City, Colorado, and Melissa Hernandez and husband Martin of Ulysses, Kansas; mother, Genevieve Hampton Tucker of Johnson, Kansas; brothers, Paul Tucker and wife Kim of Johnson, Kansas, Jackie Tucker and wife Patty of Johnson, Kansas; sisters, Patsy Huddleston and husband Douglas of Johnson, Kansas, and Glenda Johnson and husband Scott of Salina, Kansas; in-laws, Carolyn Gilbert of Westfield, New York, Linda and Ralph Gaszynski of Fredonia, New York, Bev and Jim Jones of Westfield, New York, Bonnie and Paul Kelley of Stockton, New York, Jim and Teresa Gilbert of Pelion, South Carolina, Lovis Gilbert of Gilbert, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Larissa Tucker, C.J. Cooper, Emmitt Cooper all of Canon City, Colorado, and Marissa Hernandez of Ulysses, Kansas; 40 nieces and nephews; 47 great-nieces and nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lawson Tucker; father-in-law, Lovis Gilbert; sister-in-law, Brenda Gilbert; and two nephews and one great-niece.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Johnson, Kansas with Pastor Gerry Dupuis officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas with military graveside rites conducted by the Johnson VFW Post #3684. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
