Obituary for Velora Krehbiel

Velora Krehbiel, 86 of Lakin died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. She was born November 6, 1927 in Goessel, Kansas the daughter of Karl & Helena (Schroeder) Schmidt.
Velora grew up in the Goessel area. She attended country schools before attending and graduating from high school in Goessel. She then attended Bethel College. On July 20, 1950 she married Marlin H. Krehbiel in Goessel, Kansas. They moved to Lakin, Kansas after their marriage and have lived in Lakin since. A homemaker Velora worked part time at Harold’s Hideaway where she was known for making wonderful salads and desserts. Velora was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Women and the Homemakers Unit. Velora loved to play the organ at her church. She also enjoyed playing the organ at weddings and funerals. She loved to spend time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include a son Dean Krehbiel of Lakin; two daughters Sharon & husband John Ingram of Wichita, Kansas and Nancy & husband Ronny Kessler of Lakin; ten grandchildren Jacob Kessler, Cassie & husband Andy Miller, Hayden Kessler, Chase Ingram, Grant Ingram, Haley Ingram, Molly Ingram, Raegan Ingram, Ross Ingram, & Tucker Ingram; and one great grandchild Samuel Miller. Velora is preceded in death by her husband Marlin who died on February 14, 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers O.D. Schmidt and Roy Schmidt.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakin with Rev. Charles Ayers officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 pm. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. The family requests memorials given to the Velora Krehbiel Memorial Fund to be used for Christian Ministries in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
