Obituary for Ruth M. Moore

Ruth M. Moore, age 97, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas. She was born September 20, 1916 on the farm outside of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, the daughter of Arthur and Mabel (Wells) Swonger.

Ruth grew up in Pratt and graduated from Pratt High School. She played the violin in the school orchestra. On February 23, 1941, she married Raymond H. Moore at the Baptist church in Pratt. After their marriage, they moved to Hugoton, Kansas. Ruth was an accomplished painter and enjoyed China painting, gardening and canning. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the church choir, and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of Eastern Star, an extension unit and a 4-H leader. Ruth was a devoted mother and grandmother; and looked forward to her family’s visits.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Moore and wife Pamela of Hugoton, Kansas; daughters, Celain Baker and husband Gary of Hugoton, Kansas, Shila Moore of Hugoton, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Arica, Nate, Cody, Cail, Cam, and Case; and nine great-grandchildren, Zachary, Zander, Zayden, Corbin, Ava Lou, Tyler, Hadle, Ivan and Thane.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in 2012; grandson, Sean Ivan Moore; brothers, John, Babe, Earl and Roy; and sisters, Fern, Ora, and Ruby.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 11, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Hugoton, Kansas with Pastor Jo Mead officiating. Burial will follow at the Hugoton Cemetery in Hugoton, Kansas. Friends may call Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton, Kansas. Memorials may be given in lieu of flowers to the United Methodist Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S Main, Hugoton, KS 67951.
