Obituary for Donald Albert Walsh

Donald Albert Walsh passed away peacefully Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born on May 13, 1929 in Detroit Michigan to Lester Thomas and Freda (MacMahon) Walsh. As a young child he lived in Michigan for a short period of time before the family moved to Lynwood California where he graduated from high school.

Donald worked for Ralph Groceries in California for 40 years. In his spare time he loved to boat, taught a sextant navigation course at a Junior College and was a volunteer member of the Coast Guard Power Squadron in the Los Angles Harbor. When he gave up boating, he became an avid camper and mobile home owner. He loved to travel and take photographs of the places he visited. He spent the last 20 years living in Iola and Ulysses Kansas.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert Lester Walsh of Houston, Texas and Gerald Chester Walsh of Templeton, California; and his adopted son, Ralph Walsh.

His loving life partner Mary Ann Koehn, and his only niece, seven nephews, thirteen great-nieces and nephews, and five great-great-nieces and nephews survive him.

Celebration of Donald’s life will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Grant County Senior Center in Ulysses, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Grant County Senior Center or a Cancer Foundation of your choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
