Obituary for Sylvia "Susie" Billings

Sylvia “Susie” Billings was born October 17, 1945 to Sherman Wayne and Martha Ione (Morgan) Lewis in Eureka, Kansas. She peacefully slipped into heaven on September 9, 2014 at the age of 68. Susie attended school in Quincy and Hamilton, Kansas. She graduated from Hamilton High School in May of 1964. She missed her 1st year of school due to Rheumatic Fever. That put her and her youngest sister, one year apart, in school and fun they did have. Susie was 1 of 11 children so boredom wasn’t in their vocabulary. The four youngest were in a span of five years so that kept the games and the kids busy all the time. Susie grew up in the United Methodist Church where she and her sister sang in the choir and at school singing both duets and solos. She had a beautiful soprano voice.
Susie married Lynn Billings in 1966. They had two boys and one girl. They later divorced but remained dear friends. Susie worked 10 years for Greyhound Bus out of Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Denver, Colorado as a Ticket Sales Clerk. She was a real people person and greeted all with a big smile. She loved her job and had to give it up due to health problems.
Susie loved playing Pitch and Hand – N – Foot. She liked to win but just enjoyed to play for fun. She will be missed by many, especially her family and Bill. Susie will be remembered as a person who smiled with both her eyes and her mouth; she had a giggle that everyone loved.
Susie is survived by her soul mate, Bill Belohlavy of Wilber; sons; daughter-in-law, Debbie Billings; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Lewis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Larry Lewis of Alva, Oklahoma; sister, Rachael Stewart of Rolla, Kansas; sister-in-law, Sandra Lewis of Toronto, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband, Lynn; infant daughter, Stephanie Kay; brothers, Don, Elvin, Keith, Kenneth, and Jack; sisters, Katherine and Karen; and two nephews.
Graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 15, 2014 at Richfield Cemetery in Richfield, Kansas. Friends may call on Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to the Susie Billings Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
