Obituary for Edward L. Unruh

Edward L. Unruh, 83 of Garden City died Saturday, September 13, 2014 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born January 15, 1931 in Clark County, Kansas the son of Alfred & Esther (Inmann) Unruh.
Edward moved with his family to the Garden City area when he was a child. He grew up and attended school in Holcomb. He graduated from Holcomb High School in 1949. After high school, Edward served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After the service he began working for the Garden City Company and later at the Alfalfa Mill. He then started to work at Kansas Nebraska Gas Company where he retired 35 years later. Edward enjoyed woodworking especially scroll sawing. He also enjoyed hunting for arrowheads, his church, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On December 8, 1957 he married Dana D. Cranston in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include three children Jenny Irsik of Weatherford, Texas, Gary & wife Michelle Unruh of Garden City, Kansas and Susan & husband Lance Ketterling of Garden City, Kansas; two brothers Gene Unruh and Allen Unruh both of Deerfield, Kansas; a sister Ruby Ryan of Garden City, Kansas; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Edward is preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; and another brother Dale Unruh.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Church of the Brethren in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to the Church of the Brethren or to the American Heart Association both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
