Obituary for Timothy James Jones

Timothy James Jones, age 49, of Rolla, Kansas died Saturday, September 13, 2014 at his home in Rolla, Kansas. He was born August 20, 1965 in Santa Fe, New Mexico the son of Carl and Judy (Bennett) Jones.

Tim grew up in New Mexico and graduated from Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He played football in high school and was awarded All State Linebacker his senior year. He continued his education at the University of New Mexico and graduated from New Mexico State University with a BS of Science in 1990. Tim also worked on his Masters and PhD. at Kansas State University. He was a graduate student at KSU working on Feedlot Nutrition and Range Nutrition. He continued with KSU Extension from 1991 – 2014. In 1996, he began as an agent in Sharon Springs, Kansas and then in Elkhart, Kansas in 2000. He was active with 4-H and raised Quality Sheep and Goats. He was an avid ski racer, enjoyed fishing, biking, roping, and spending time with his family.

He married Karen Durrett on January 5, 1990 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; two daughters, Kenzie Lynn and Carlie Ann Jones all of Rolla, Kansas; his parents, Carl and Judy Jones of Crested Butte, Colorado; sister, Betsy Smith of Crane, Missouri; eight nieces and nephews, Ben Smith, Luke Smith, Erin Smith, Jeffrey Ferry, Derek Ferry, Trey Mundt, William Dominick, and Cody Dominick.

Tim was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Morton County Civic Center in Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend Timothy Q. Clark officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the Kenzie and Carlie Jones Education Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
