Obituary for Robin Joel Russell
Robin Joel Russell, 56 of Garden City died Monday, September 15, 2014 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born August 17, 1958 in Elkhart, Kansas the son of Robert L. & Shirley A. (Sullivan) Russell.
Robin moved to Garden City with his family when he was a child. He attended Garden City schools and graduated from Garden City High School in 1977. Robin worked a variety of jobs, mostly trucking in the oil and gas industry. He was most recently working at Western Transport at the Garden City Co-op. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, a member of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club and one of the original 5 members of the Southwest Iron Chapter. Robin loved the outdoors. He enjoyed motorcycles, 4 wheeling, jeeping, snow sports, water sports, rodeo, and was a Dive Master Emeritus.
On December 11, 1981, Robin married Sandra “Sandy” Talbert in Wichita, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter Paige & husband Joshua Dorzweiler of Garden City; his parents Robert & Shirley Russell of Garden City; a brother Ryan J. Russell of Wichita, Ks.; an uncle J.D. Russell of Goddard, Ks.; a niece Cady Russell of Wichita, Ks.; a nephew Cody Russell of Wichita, Ks.; and his mother-in-law Shirley Talbert of Garden City.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Rev. David Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to the Robin Russell Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
