Obituary for Beula L. Metheney

Beula Lorrane (Turner) Metheney (86) went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 18, 2014. Services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Graveside services to follow At Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Beula was born Nov. 26, 1927 at Gove, KS. She was the third of seven children born to George and Zealia (Stokes) Turner. She married John W. Metheney, June 12, 1949 in Dodge City, KS. Together they celebrated 54 years of marriage before John’s passing in March of 2004. She and John moved to Garden City where they made their home until 2006 when Beula moved to Wichita to be closer to family.

John and Beula were very active in the Garden City community. She was a clerk at the District Court for many years. She and John owned and operated John’s Furniture for many years before building Meadowlark Mobile Home Park. They were both avid rock hounds and were founders and charter members of the Southwest Gem and Mineral Society. Beula was a treasured mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She and John were surrogate parents and gave time, money, and shelter to many people over the years.

Beula was proceeded in death by her husband John, sisters Betty Turner and Beverly (Turner) Giamara, and brother Bryce Turner. Survivors include her children Lou Ann Metheney Spangler (Mark) of Wichita and Larry Metheney (Sue) of Phoenix, AZ; two brothers Beufred Turner of Custer, Washington and Byron Turner of Lafayette, California; a sister Bonny Stevenson of Dodge City, KS; 6 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials given to the Pregnancy Crisis Center of Wichita in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
