Obituary for Fred E. Palmblade

Fred E. Palmblade, 62 of Garden City died Thursday, October 23, 2014 at his home in Garden City. He was born March 19, 1952 in Scott City, Kansas the son of Marvin & Virgene (Cheney) Palmblade.
Fred grew up and attended school in Leoti, Kansas. After graduating from Leoti High School in 1970, Fred attended Kansas State University. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from Kansas State University in 1976. Fred then moved to Garden City where he has lived since. He worked for Wharton’s for Every Bloomin’ Thing as the nursery manager and landscape designer. He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City, the Garden City Sunriser’s Kiwanis Club, the High Plains Horticulture Society, and Seeds of Hope Jail Ministry. Fred’s passion was his work as a horticulturalist. He loved gardening and attending football and basketball games of all ages.
Fred first married Nancy Jackson in Leoti, Kansas. He later married Connie Chaffin McAfee on January 4, 2002 in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include three children Jada Osterdyk of Pine City, Minnesota, Lindsey Utermoehl of Pine City, Minnesota, and Joseph & wife Becci Palmblade of Pine City, Minnesota; a step-son Jason & wife Elisabeth McAfee of Liberal, Kansas; a sister Patsy & husband Jerry Eikenberry of Leoti, Kansas; seven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City with Pastor Rick Durham officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family requests memorials given to St. Francis Family Services, Seeds of Hope, or the Gideons all in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
