It allows family and friends a place to re-visit, interact with each other, share and enhance this tribute for future generations. Obituary for LeRoy Vannaman

LeRoy was born on July 18, 1930 to Ray and Evilo (Warren) Vannaman in Cimarron, Kansas. He passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at his home in Garden City. He lived in Kalvesta until the age of 10 when the family moved to Garden City. He graduated from high school in Garden City in 1948.
LeRoy met Dorothy Mae Hoyt in 1947 and they were married June 4, 1950. LeRoy worked for Northern Natural Gas Company for 36 years from 1949 to 1986. He and Dorothy moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1978 and returned to Garden City in 1987 after his retirement.
He was a member of the First Christian Church for many years where he served as a trustee and most recently became a member of the Community Congregational Church United Church of Christ.
His family considered him a Master Carpenter. They all enjoy the many talents of his skill. He designed and built their home in Garden City and helped his children and grandchildren with remodeling their homes. He also made several fine pieces of furniture that will be cherished for years to come. LeRoy also enjoyed traveling, golfing and cheering for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
He is survived by Dorothy, his wife for 64 years; his children Mike (Mary Ann) Vannaman of Garden City, Rick (Sally) Vannaman of Overland Park, Ks., and Kay (Jeff) Carter of Bristol, Virginia; a brother Warren Vannaman of Niceville, Florida; two sisters Wanda Ward of Lakin, Ks. and JoAnn Jones of Dodge City, Ks.; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Maxine Knight and Lottie Mae Sperry. Family was a very important part of his life and he will be greatly missed by them all.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the Community Congregational Church in Garden City with Rev. Steve Bridwell officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family request memorials given to Heartland Cancer Center or to St. Catherine Hospice both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
