Obituary for Maxine Scott

Maxine Scott, 86 of Garden City died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. She was born August 18, 1928 in Herington, Kansas the daughter of James Ira & Hilda (Beckel) McCoy.
Maxine attended Lakin schools and graduated from Lakin High School in 1946. She later earned her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Garden City Community College. She worked as a Registered Nurse for MASH Home Health & Hospice and at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. In previous years, she also worked as an Avon Lady in rural Finney County, a bookkeeper for Finney County Extension Services, and a volunteer for Migrant Ministries. Maxine was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, the Altar Guild, choir member and Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Extension Homemakers Unit, and a Beacon Booster 4-H volunteer leader. Maxine enjoyed geneology research and painting.
Survivors include her five children Laura Lee of McCall, ID, Joe & wife Carol Scott of Sublette, KS, Kent Scott of Garden City, KS, Preston & wife Tonney Scott of Liberal, KS, and Krista Scott and husband Brian Martinson of Arlington, TX; four brothers David McCoy of Longmont, CO, Edgar McCoy of Topeka, KS, Dennis McCoy of Jackson, MI, and Harold McCoy of Colfax, CA;
10 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers James McCoy and Jerry McCoy; a sister Elvera McCoy; and a grandson Darren Lee.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Garden City with Rev. Larry Steadman officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Ks. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials given to the GCCC Nursing Scholarship Fund or the St. Thomas Episcopal Church Endowment Fund both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
