Obituary for Mary Valdez

Mary Valdez, age 62, of Ulysses, Kansas died Thursday, December 11, 2014 at her home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born September 23, 1952 in Plainview, Texas, the daughter of Ernesto and Esperanza (Garcia) Garcia.

Mary grew up in Texas and has lived in Ulysses since 1965. She was a homemaker, owned and operated Parties Etc, and made birthday cakes. She married Nazario “Joe” Valdez in Ulysses, Kansas on October 17, 1969.

She is survived by her husband, Nazario “Joe” of their home; daughter, Alicia Valdez of Ulysses, Kansas; mother, Esperanza Garcia of Ulysses, Kansas; brothers, Wally Garcia and wife Dora of Garden City, Kansas, Luis Garcia and wife Hortensia of Ulysses, Kansas, Ernie Garcia and wife Cindy of Ulysses, Kansas; sisters, Irene Garcia Nieto and husband Jesus of Ulysses, Kansas, and Salome Perez and husband Bob of Lakin, Kansas.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, Ernesto; grandparents; son, Nazario Valdez Jr.; sister, Pauline Garcia; and brother, Juan Garcia.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 15, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend James Baker officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Friends may call on Saturday, December 13, 2014, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM; Sunday, December 14, 2014 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM; and Monday, December 15, 2014 from 10:00 AM until service time at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Mary Valdez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
