Obituary for Juan Toole

Juan Bernice Toole, age 82, of Manter, Kansas died Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, Kansas. She was born August 5, 1932 at home in southwest Stanton County, Kansas, the daughter of Fred and Rhoda (Fender) Kilgore.

Juan attended school in Manter. She worked part-time during high school in her father’s grocery store in Manter. During the war she helped served doughnuts and drinks to the troop train as it passed through Syracuse. She graduated from Manter High School on May 18, 1950. Juan married James B. Toole on May 19, 1950 in Manter. They lived and farmed west of Manter. Juan helped with the farming operation and also drove the tractor. She always had a garden and raised chickens. She collected bells and crystal dishes. Juan was a member of the Manter EHU, Manter United Church, and Manter United Methodist Women. Juan enjoyed and loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.

Survivors include her husband, J.B. Toole; son, Ronald Toole and wife Delores of Manter, Kansas; daughter, Debra Fieldgrove and husband Matt of Somerton, Arizona; sisters, Leora Creech, Arlene Nichols, Joyce Rinehart, and Donna Webb; three grandchildren, J.W. Toole, Dustin Toole, and Britt Toole; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Juan is preceded in death by her parents; sons, Alan Toole and Lonnie Toole; brothers, Bernard Kilgore, George Kilgore and Warren Kilgore; and sisters, Velma Baier, Letha McGinty.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at the Manter United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Courtney officiating. Burial will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call Monday, February 2, 2015 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
