Obituary for Rose M. Lee

Rose M. Lee, age 92, of Elkhart, Kansas died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at her home in Elkhart, Kansas. She was born May 11, 1922 in Lakin, Kansas, the daughter of James Alfred and Jennie Frances (Brown) Horton.

Rose grew up in Lakin, Kansas, Baca County, Colorado, and moved to Morton County with her family at the age of 4 and graduated from Elkhart High School. Rose continued her education at Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma. She earned her teaching degree and taught elementary school for 39 years. Rose was active in her community. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Delta Epsilon (ESA), Morton County Chamber of Commerce and the United Methodist Church, Elkhart, Kansas. She was a member of the Kansas teachers association, was a 4-H leader and taught bible school. In her spare time, Rose enjoyed weed-eating and reading to kids.

On December 21, 1947, Rose married Henry Mark Lee in Elkhart, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 29, 2008.

Survivors include three sons; Mark Lee of Elkhart, Kansas, Galen Lee and wife Vienna of Elkhart, Kansas and Rick Lee and campanion Rhonda of Elkhart, Kansas, one daughter; Marcala Arheart and husband Robert of Liberal, Kansas, one sister; Jean Kemp and husband Bill of Elkhart, Kansas, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Rose is preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings and daughter-in-law; Gena Lee.

Memorial service will be held Monday, March 23, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend Dennis Reimer presiding. Inurnment will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart, Kansas. Family requests memorials be given to the Elkhart Grade School Library or United Methodist Church, Elkhart, Kansas, both in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 854, Elkhart, Kansas 67950.
