Obituary for Lee Greathouse

Lee Greathouse, 71 died Saturday, April 18, 2015 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born August 27, 1943 in Garden City the son of Ralph Austin & Pearl (Dufield) Greathouse.
Lee has been a lifetime Finney County and Garden City resident. He attended Silverdale, Harmony, and Jenny Barker Elementary schools. Lee the attended Sabine Junior High and graduated from Garden City High School in 1961. A lifetime farmer and stockman, Lee enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, guns, archery, and his dogs. He also loved to watch his grandchildren in their sporting activities and loved raising and training cutting horses. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Garden City, a long time member and past president of the Kansas Cutting Horse Association, a longtime member of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association, a longtime member and board member of the Elks Lodge, a past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge, and a member of the High Plains Bassmasters.
On September 3, 1961, he married Jan Johnson in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters Tami & husband Sheldon Hunter of Garden City and Cindy Landgraf of Dighton, Kansas; three brothers Gary Greathouse of Ft. Collins, Co., John Greathouse of Hays, Ks., and David Greathouse of Hays, Ks.; a sister Rebecca Middleton of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; four grandchildren Eric & wife Karissa Hunter, Mitchell Lee & wife Kyla Hunter, Morgan Landgraf, and Bodie Landgraf; and a great grandchild Colton Hunter. Lee is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Kathryn Greathouse; and a son-in-law Jeff Landgraf.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Rev. David Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family requests memorials to Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
