Obituary for Loretta Fay Godbey

Loretta Fay Godbey, 73 died Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. She was born July 29, 1941 in Rozel, Kansas the daughter of Alvis & Fay (Elmore) Goalden.
Loretta grew up and attended school in Edson, Kansas. After attending Fort Hays State University, Loretta lived in Goodland, Hays, Colorado Springs, and Ulysses before moving to Lakin in 1976. She has lived in Lakin since. A homemaker, Loretta also ran a daycare from her home. She also served as a foster parent for many years. She enjoyed making jewelry, beading, gardening, and decorating for the holidays. She was a member of the Lakin United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
On October 22, 1988 she married Thomas R. Godbey in Lakin, Kansas. He survives. Other survivors include six children Jerry Lee & wife Tammie Horton of Ulysses, Ks., Tina & husband Bob Vincent of Lakin, Ks., Shawn & wife Dana Horton of Lakin, Ks., Alicia & husband Chris Jackson of The Colony, Tx., Dawn Nelson of Silverdale, Wa., and Chasity Godbey of Coldwater, Ks.; a brother Randy & wife Mary Jane Goalden of Selden, Ks.; two Sisters-In-Law Carol Goalden of Goodland, Ks. and Linda Goalden of McPherson, Ks.; eleven grandchildren Bryna Horton, Britton Horton, Erin Horton, Tiana Stebens, Tiara Stebens, Chelsie Helberg, Aubrey Horton, Lynsey Nelson, Ryan Nelson, Cassondra Jackson, and Trevor Jackson; and three great grandchildren Shawn Hernandez, Evelyn Nelson, and Riplea Rudzik. Loretta is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Alvis Goalden, Jr. and jimmie Goalden; and a sister Sandra Harper.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Lakin, Kansas with Rev. Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. The family requests memorials to the Lakin United Methodist Church for the Children’s Sunday School and Vacation Bible School in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin.
