Obituary for Gerald D. Evans

Gerald D. Evans, 76 died Friday, April 15, 2016 at Via Christ St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. He was born January 3, 1940 in Garden City the son of Merle DeForest & L. Gertrude (Calhoun) Evans.
Gerald grew up as a child in Garden City where he attended school. After graduating from Garden City High School, Gerald attended and graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana. While living in New Orleans, Gerald worked as a professional musician where he played the organ and also played in several dance bands. He returned to Garden City in 1984 where he has lived since. While living in Garden City, he worked at Walls Foodliner where he later became manager. Gerald then started his own business in tuning pianos. He retired after tuning pianos for more than 25 years. Gerald enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and he always maintained the love of playing music.
On April 26, 1959, Gerald married Linda A. Degenhart in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include five children Thaddeus Evans of Wichita, Ks., Shawn L. & husband Al Wilson of Edmond, Ok., Chris & wife Robin Evans of North Bend, Ne., Candace Evans of New Orleans, La., and Reynold Evans of New Orleans, La.; five grandchildren Ricardo Evans, Ambrosha Vyhlidal, Alexzander Evans, Braden Wilson, and Bryce Wilson; and two great grandchildren Catherine Vyhlidal and Michael Evans. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Phyllis Foster.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. A private family interment will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family request memorials given to St. Mary Catholic Church or to the Jesuit Mission & Ministry at Loyola University in New Orleans both in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
