Obituary for Ida Mae Herrell

Ida Mae Herrell, 86 died Thursday, June 9, 2016 at her home in Garden City. She was born July 14, 1929 North of Holcomb, Kansas in Finney County the daughter of Edward & Florence (Murphy) Shrimplin.
Ida Mae has lived most of her life in the Holcomb and Garden City area. She attended Holcomb schools and graduated from Holcomb High School. She then attended the Colorado School of Business in Colorado Springs. Ida Mae worked various jobs throughout her life. She worked in the sterilization department at St. Catherine Hospital until her retirement. She enjoyed reading, baking, playing solitaire, word search puzzles, writing letters, collecting thimbles, watching the squirrels, her photo albums, and visiting with family and friends.
On August 15, 1953 she married Ralph E. Herrell in Holcomb, Kansas. He died on June 17, 2015. Ida Mae is also preceded in death by her parents; 2 sons David Herrell and William Jared Herrell; 2 brothers Eldon Shrimplin and Marian “Bud” Shrimplin; and 2 sisters Fay Amos and Betty Jo Shrimplin.
Survivors include her 6 children Debbie & husband Reme Lefort of Garden City, R. Thomas & wife Lori Herrell of Garden City, Greg & wife Paula Herrell of Garden City, Mark Herrell of Garden City, Becky Quint of Shawnee, Ks., and Susan & husband Mike Headley of Garden City; a brother Tom “Pete” Shrimplin of Manhattan, Ks.; a sister Bonnie June Seavey of Garden City; 16 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at First Assembly of God Church in Garden City with Pastor Nathan Sheridan officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family request memorials given to St. Catherine Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
