Obituary for Wilbert (Nick) Nichols

Wilbert “Nick” Nichols, age 81, of Ulysses, Kansas died Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston, Kansas. He was born June 5, 1935, in Fowler, Kansas, the son of George Obert and Mildred Marie (Dalgarn) Nichols.

Nick grew up in Fowler and graduated from Fowler High School. He married Connie F. Dierking on July 15, 1956 in Fowler. Nick and Connie farmed in Grant County for many years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ulysses, Farm Bureau, and served on the Ulysses School Board.

He is survived by his wife, Connie of their home; daughters, Debra Barbo and husband Kevin, and Pamela Brown and husband Craig all of Ulysses, Kansas; son, Scott Nichols and wife Karla of Cheney, Kansas; five grandchildren, Trevor Brown and wife Rachel, Nichole Ivy and husband Aaron, Addison Nichols, Avery Nichols, Angela Lopez and husband Jack; and six great-grandchildren, Caleb and Coal Brown, Ayva and Cooper Ivy, and Corbin and Easton Lopez.

Nick is preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Ruth Edmonds, Lela Nichols, Kenneth Nichols, Gerald Nichols, Elvin Nichols, Marvin Nichols, and Gene Nichols.

Memorial service will be Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Reverend Todd Guinn officiating. Family inurnment will take place at Fowler Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
