Obituary for Auston Cauthon

Auston Cauthon, age 83, of Johnson, Kansas died Thursday, September 22, 2016, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. He was born March 12, 1933, in Coolidge, Kansas, the son of Woody Harrelson and Debbie (Wright) Cauthon.

Auston grew up in Syracuse and graduated from Syracuse High School. He was stationed in the Philippines from 1954 -1956 while serving in the United States Army as a bulldozer operator. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Syracuse. Auston married Virginia Spellman on June 23, 1957 in Syracuse. They moved to Denver, Colorado and returned to Syracuse and he worked for the Chevrolet garage. Auston retired after 35 years from Atmos Energy as the plant manager in Johnson. After retirement, he worked at the golf course in Johnson. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, playing cards, shooting pool, and spending time with his numerous friends. Auston’s family would like to recognize his lifetime friend, Kay Gould.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia of the home; children, Jimmie R. Cauthon and wife Denise of Wakarusa, Kansas, Patricia Schmidt and husband Mike of Dodge City, Kansas, and Wade Cauthon and wife Tricia of Elizabeth, Colorado; brother, Elbert Cauthon of Borger, Texas; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one on the way.

Auston is preceded in death by his parents; and seven siblings.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Graveside service will be at 1:00 PM (MST) at the Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse, Kansas with military rites conducted by Kansas Military Funeral Honor Guard. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Avenue, Ulysses, KS 67880.
