Obituary for Cecil L. Pucket

Cecil L. Pucket, age 98, of Ulysses, Kansas died Monday, September 26, 2016, at The Legacy at Park View in Ulysses. He was born March 04, 1918, in Burdett, Kansas the son of Warner and Bessie (Saxton) Pucket.

The family moved from Pawnee County, Kansas to Grant County in 1927. Cecil attended grade school at Shockey School, and graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1936. He joined the United States Army in February 1941 and was honorably discharged as a Tech. Sgt. in November 1945. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Cecil returned to Ulysses, married his wife, JoAnne Eyman on November 27, 1947. They made their home close to Shockey School and had four sons. Cecil farmed until his retirement. He served 20 years as a Grant County Commissioner (1967 – 1987). He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ulysses, served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Ulysses Gideon Camp.

Cecil is survived by his wife, JoAnne of Ulysses, Kansas; sons, Larry and wife Carol of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Glenn of Ulysses, Kansas, Joe and wife Penny of Ulysses, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Pucket of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his son, Donald.

Funeral service will be Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Ulysses with Delbert Whaley officiating. Interment will follow at Shockey Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Gideon’s in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
