Obituary for Karen Edgington

Karen Edgington, age 79, of Lakin, Kansas died Sunday, October 30, 2016, at the Kearny County Hospital in Lakin, Kansas. She was born March 12, 1937, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Wayne and Virginia (Hilleary) Leierer.

Karen grew up in Ulysses, Kansas and graduated from Grant County Rural High School. She married Ronald Edgington on July 10, 1958, in Boise City, Oklahoma. Karen and Ron farmed and raised their family in southwest Kearny County. Ten months ago they moved to the Assisted Living Apartments at the High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. Karen enjoyed going to the family’s cabin near Cripple Creek, Colorado.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald; children, Steven Edgington and wife Rowena of Ulysses, Kansas, Rhonda Davis and husband Phil of Lakin, Kansas, Greg Edgington of Houston, Texas, Bret Edgington and wife Tina of Ulysses, Kansas; brother, Richard Leierer of Ulysses, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Mandy, Marci, Rodney, Charlee, Rhonni, Josh and Jake; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Charles (Bus) and Virginia Leierer; and sister, Joan Porter.

Funeral service will be Thursday, November 3, 2016, at 10:00 AM at Wesleyan Church in Lakin with Pastor Kenton Connor officiating. Interment will follow at the Lakin Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. Memorial contributions may be given to the High Plains Retirement Village Assisted Living or the local charity of your choice in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 91, Lakin, KS 67860.
