Obituary for Noel Clarence Taylor

Name: Noel Clarence Taylor
Noel Clarence Taylor, 76, of Wichita, Kansas died Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was born June 1, 1940 in El Dorado, Arkansas the son of Albert Noel Taylor and Marguerite Gladys (Cherry) Nordyke.
Noel, “Sonny” grew up in Deerfield, Kansas and graduated from Deerfield High School. He joined the United States Navy on July 28, 1958 and was discharged on June 26, 1967. While serving in the U.S. Navy, Noel was stationed on three ships and finished his service as a submarine missile instructor. After the service, he began working for IBM in Camden, Arkansas. He moved to to Deerfield, Kansas in 1972 while continuing to work for IBM as a service technician out of the Garden City office. He remained in Deerfield until 2014 when he moved to Wichita to be closer to the VA Hospital where he received excellent health care. He was a member of the Community Congregational Church in Garden City and a member of the John J. Haskell, VFW Post #2279 in Garden City. Noel was an avid sportsman with plenty of hunting and fishing stories. His pride as a good sailor in the Navy also produced a plethora of sea stories. When Noel knew someone needed a helping hand, he would offer his own. He was a supporter of the Union Rescue Mission and the Kansas Food Bank while living in Wichita.
On November 28, 1964, Noel married Jeri Lynn Green in Lakin, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include two children Glenda & husband Greg Crotchett of Edmond, Oklahoma and Joseph & wife Renae Taylor of Olathe, Kansas; a granddaughter Emily of Olathe, Kansas; five brothers Danny Taylor, David Taylor, Randall Taylor, and Terry Taylor all of Kelleyville, Oklahoma and Roger Sweeney of Westminster, Colorado; and two sisters Mari Nordyke of Russell, Kansas and Nita Kay (Taylor) Mashburn of Kelleyville, Oklahoma. Noel is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Bob Taylor and Allen Nordyke; and a sister Martha (Nordyke) Farris.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at the Lakin Cemetery in Lakin with Rev. David Taylor officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. The family suggests memorials given to the Kansas Food Bank in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Lakin. Condolences may be given at garnandfuneralhomes.com.
