Obituary for Mary Alice Bosley

Name: Mary Alice Bosley

Mary Alice Bosley, 92, died on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Lane County Hospital in Dighton. She was born on May 15, 1924 on the family farm in Lane County to Delmar & Lena (Bobb) Durr. Mary Alice graduated with the Class of 1942 from Dighton High School. She earned her Bachelor Of Science Degree in Home Economics and Art from Kansas State University in 1946. On January 19, 1947 she married Charles C. Bosley in Dighton. He died on May 13, 2003.

She taught one year at Manning Grade School and for five years at Dighton Grade School and continued as a substitute teacher for many years.

She enjoyed art and had painted a mural on canvas that had a sod house on one side and a painting of the Alamota Store, The Dighton Bank & a building in Healy that was used in the Kansas Centennial celebration in Lane County. It was later on display at the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. It now hangs in the courtroom of the Lane County Courthouse and was published in Kansas Murals by Lora Jost and Dave Loewenstein. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dighton, United Methodist Women, Lane County Historical Society, Chi Omega Sorority, P.E.O., Order of Eastern Star, and was a Past President of the Lane County Arts Council. She was the recipient of the 2008 Distinguished Service Award from the Kansas Museums Association.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, daughter- Susan Bosley Osborne & 4 Sisters- Lorene Stormont, Geneva Hineman, Jeannette Shull & Ila Muchow.

Survivors include 1 Son- Dennis & Audrey Bosley of Topeka, 2 Daughters- Barbara Bosley of Denver, Colorado & Joan Bosley of Topeka, 2 Sisters- Ellen May Stanley of Dighton & Lee Speer of Edmund, Oklahoma, 5 Grandchildren- Heather (Josh) Loftus of The Woodlands, Texas, Lindsay (Brian) Stauss of Scottsdale, Arizona, Malinda (Mindy) & Will Larkin of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, Carl (Danielle) Bosley of New York City, New York, Cory (Anna) Bosley of Valley Park, Missouri, Great-Grandchildren- Riley Loftus, Kalin Loftus, Joy Stauss, Ella Larkin, James Larkin & Alice Bosley.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Dighton with the Rev. Berniece Ludlum officiating. Burial will be at Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church, Lane County Historical Society Building Fund or Lane County Long Term Care in care of Boomhower Funeral Home of Dighton.
