Obituary for Lydia Martinez

Lydia Martinez, age 80, of Rolla, Kansas, died Thursday, March 30, 2017, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born February 28, 1937, in Rosita, Mexico, the daughter of Tranquilino and Dolores (Cervera) Lozano.

Lydia grew up in Mexico. She married Jesus Martinez, Sr. in 1958 in Zaragoza, Mexico. They moved to Rolla, Kansas on May 24, 1974. Lydia enjoyed entertaining and welcomed everyone into her home. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, attending flea markets and garage sales. Lydia was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Elkhart, Kansas, and worked as a custodian at the Rolla Schools for over 23 years.

Survivors include her children, Marco Martinez of Keyes, Oklahoma, Maria de Loudres Jimenez and husband Asuncion of Hugoton, Kansas, Maricela Hernandez and husband Ignacio of Elkhart, Kansas, Jesus Martinez, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Liberal, Kansas, Maria del Carmen Martinez of Luling, Louisiana, Fernando Martinez and wife Reyna of Rolla, Kansas, and Consuelo Martinez of Manhattan, Kansas; grandchildren, Emily, Garbriella, Beatrice, Gabe, Angela, Marcus, Daniel, Adrianna, Brianna, Luis, Melissa, Heeth, Brooklyn, Madison, Hayden, Tyson, Daniel, Alonzo, Samantha, Victoria, Alex, Columba, Janelle, Trinity, and Elijah; great-grandchildren, Cody, Challen, Parker, Peyton, Mya, Arianna, Gavin, Jace, Levi, Carter and Yaral; brother, Juan P. Lozano and wife Christine of Elkhart, Kansas; and sister, Pura Lozano and husband Panfilo of Eagle Pass, Texas.

Lydia is preceded in death by her parents, husband, five brothers, one sister; and daughter-in-law, Lourdes Martinez.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart. Rosary and vigil service will be Sunday, April 2, 2017, at 5:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass will be Monday, April 3, 2017, at 10:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend Francis Khoi Nguyen officiating. Interment will follow at Rolla Cemetery.
