Obituary for Gregory J "Greg" Hands

Garden City- Gregory J. “Greg” Hands, 66, died on Friday, July 28, 2017 in Finney County. He was born on October 15, 1950 in Garden City, the son of S. Fielding & L. Jean (Recknor) Hands. He married Peggy J. Pitts on June 6, 1971 in Garden City.

Greg graduated from Garden City High School with the Class of 1968. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Economics from Kansas State University in 1972. After finishing college, he returned to the family farm in Finney County as a partner in Triangle H.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Garden City, Vice-President of his Fraternity- Alpha Gamma Rho, and had been State President of the Future Farmers of America, Chairman of the Garden City Co-op Board, Member of Farm Bureau and several other agricultural organizations.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling with his wife on cruises and foreign country tours and attending Kansas State University activities.

Survivors include his Wife- Peggy J. Hands of the Home, 2 Sons- Trevor (Jenny) Hands and Tyler (Amanda) Hands both of Garden City, 1 Daughter- Tiffany (Craig ) Stockebrand of Salina, His Father- Fielding Hands of Garden City, 2 Brothers- Samuel (Janet) Hands and Cedric (Karen) Hands both of Garden City, 5 Granddaughters- Macy Hands, Gentry Hands, Lainey Hands, Tabor Stockebrand & Payton Stockebrand. He was preceded in death by his Mother and infant sister.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with the Rev. Tod Anthony officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Casual or KSU attire is encouraged by the family. IN LIEU OF FLOWERS MEMORIALS ARE SUGGESTED TO THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN CARE OF GARNAND FUNERAL HOME. Calling hours with the family present are from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home. Condolences may be posted at garnandfuneralhomes.com
