Obituary for Derek Shane Klein

Derek Shane Klein, age 45, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Monday, July 31, 2017, at his home in rural Grant County, Kansas. He was born November 3, 1971, in Ulysses, the son of Gerald and Joyce (Bruntzel) Klein.

Derek grew up in Ulysses and graduated in 1990. He then attended Dodge City Community College. Derek while farming his whole life also worked at Skyland Grain. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, and riding 4-wheelers with his grandson. He was also a NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his son, Brady Klein and fiancée Daniela of Ulysses; mother, Joyce Klein of Salina; sister, Lexy Klein of Salina; grandmother, Rosalyn Bruntzel of Larned; one grandson, Sean Klein; nieces and nephew, Brianna, Emilio and Alyssia.

Derek is preceded in death by his father, Jerry; sister, Teri Jo Klein; brother, Troy Klein; and grandfather, Ed Bruntzel.

Funeral service will be Friday, August 4, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, August 3, 2017, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Derek Klein Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
