Obituary for Jerry Gates

Jerry Gates, 75, died Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born June 9, 1942 in Dexter, Missouri the son of Bartholomew & Annie (Smith) Gates.
Jerry grew up in Dexter, Missouri where he attended school and graduated from high school. A longtime resident of Garden City, Jerry worked as owner and operator of U-Pump It, Inc. He enjoyed fishing, cars, KU Basketball, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Jerry married Kathy Brungardt in Wichita, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include 4 children Tyler (Katie) Gates of Garden City, Tessa Gates of Garden City, Mick (Michelle) McDaniel of Junction City, KS, & Scott (Jen) McDaniel of Lawrence, KS; a sister Peggy Parker of Tampa, FL; and 5 grandchildren Kendra Gates, Griffin McDaniel, Madelyn McDaniel, Trae McDaniel, and Thane McDaniel. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; a son Tim McDaniel; and 3 brothers Wilburn Gates, Bill Gates, and Wayne Gates.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with Von Hunn officiating. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials given to the Heartland Cancer Center in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
