Obituary for Elizabeth Ponce Perez

Elizabeth Ponce Perez, age 64, died Thursday, August 24, 2017, at her home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born September 3, 1952, in EJ Pedro Jose Mendez Llera Tamp, Mexico, the daughter of Antonio Rodriguez Ponce and Maria de los Angeles Cortez Ponce.

Elizabeth grew up in Mexico. She married Manuel P. Perez on September 16, 1968 in Brownsville, Texas. They moved to Ulysses in 1977. She was an ESL Director for the Ulysses school system. Elizabeth was a Spiritual Warrior and Pastor’s wife at Primera Iglesia Bautista. She served as a Sunday school teacher and also sang with the choir. She devoted her life to serving others in all capacities. Elizabeth was an advocate in the community, helping with translation, ministering, and any other needs a family may have. She also enjoyed cooking, and was an avid reader.

She is survived by her husband, Manuel of the home; daughters, Sandra Reyes of Ulysses, Sara Silva and Flora Perez both of Lubbock, Texas; sisters, Victoria Villegas of California, Ana Maribel Ponce of Ulysses; brothers, Pedro Ponce of Ulysses, Jose Antonio Ponce of Mexico, Felipe Ponce of Mexico, Francisco Ponce of California, Noe Ponce of California, Alejandro Ponce of Ulysses, Rolando Ponce of Mexico, and Mauricio Ponce of Ulysses; grandchildren, Caleb Alex Reyes, Paul Nathan Reyes, Jeremiah Daniel Reyes, Joseph Victor Reyes, Jon Emmanuel Silva, Jonah Marcus Silva, Savanna Hope Silva, and Abria Jada Barrientoz.

Elizabeth is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at 10:00 AM at Primera Iglesia Bautista in Ulysses with John Silva officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, August 27, 2017, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Monday, August 28, 2017, from 1:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Primera Iglesia Bautista. Memorial contributions may be given to Primera Iglesia Bautista in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
