Obituary for Joseph "Joe" Alan Humphreys

Joseph "Joe" Alan Humphreys passed away on Friday, August 25, 2017. He was born August 15, 1950, the son of Margaret and Oren Humphreys in Grant County, Kansas. Joe was the twelfth child born of fifteen. Joe’s grandparents homesteaded the farm that he would eventually raise his family on.

Joe married Linda Kriegh on June 27, 1979. They had five sons. While living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in the early 80’s, Joe once operated a crane for the motion picture production Rumble Fish. Francis Ford Coppola directed the film. Joe’s family moved from Garden City back to the family farm, in Grant County, in 1986. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for Smith Sand Company and in salvage for a number of years. Joe jokingly described himself as a “jack of all trades, master of none.” He loved fishing and camping. Joe enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards with his family and friends. To those that knew him, Joe was a charismatic, hardworking and big-hearted person. He was talkative and never knew a stranger.

Joe’s surviving family includes his sons: Tyler and his wife, Arwa, California; William (Billy) and his wife, Abby, Missouri; Joseph and his wife, Brooke, Kansas; and Jesse, Colorado. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Chuck and his wife, Peggy, Utah; Ronnie and his wife, Shirley, Texas; Tommy and his wife, Brenda, California; Johnny, Kansas; Mary Ann and her husband, Larry, Oklahoma; David, Mike, and Jane, Oklahoma: 10 grandchildren, and over 50 nieces and nephews.

Joe is preceded in death by his mother and father, Oren and Margaret; siblings Bill, Betty Joe, Paul, Larry, Bobby and Steven; and his son, Casey Alan.

There will be a memorial service at the family farm. Friends and family are welcome.
