Obituary for Joe A. Monson

Joe A. Monson, age 84, of Ulysses, Kansas died Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born August 15, 1933, in Fellsburg, Kansas, the son of Leo and Gladys Ann (Randel) Monson.

Joe, a lifetime resident of Ulysses, graduated from Grant County Rural High School. He married Melba A. Smith on April 3, 1953, in Ulysses. Joe’s children and grandchildren were an important part of his life.

He is survived by two daughters, Pam Gindlesberger and husband Kelly of Ulysses, and Candice Monson of Toronto, Canada; twin sister, June Ann Kelley of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren, Abbey Ater, Andrew Gindlesberger, Madisen Monson, and Nathan Monson; and three great-grandchildren, Parker and Meyer Ater, and Emerson Gindlesberger.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Melba.

Memorial service will be Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Inurnment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Shelton Memorial Christian Church Scholarship Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
