Obituary for Eldon L. "Ike" Stanley

Eldon L. “Ike” Stanley, 86, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born October 15, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Charles Leroy & Frances (Carson) Stanley.
Eldon grew up in Wichita where he attended Wichita schools and graduated from Wichita North High School. He then served in the United States Marine Corp for 3 years during the Korean War. After the service, Eldon returned to Wichita for a short time, then to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he taught dance. He married Lorita Mae Robinson. They moved to Borger, Texas. They later moved to Garden City in 1975 and have lived in Garden City since. Eldon first worked as a Junior High school teacher while living in Borger. He also operated the Borger Boys Club for many years. Eldon later started working as a truck driver; first for LeeWay Motor Freight in Borger and then for Security Oil after moving to Garden City. Eldon was a member of the American Legion and the VFW both of Garden City. He enjoyed dancing, welding, rock collecting, and geology.
Survivors include 2 daughters Leslie (Ric “Hippy”) St. John of Talala, Oklahoma and Lisa Pence of Garden City, Kansas; 6 siblings Tom Stanley of Cobina, California, Maurine DeBoer of Wichita, Kansas, Pat Owens of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Fran Robbins of Seattle, Washington, Dick Robbins of California, and Tom Hilger of Lawrence, Kansas; 11 Grandchildren; and 18 Great Grandchildren. Eldon is preceded in death by his wife Lorita who died in 1996; a son Michael Craig; a daughter Sherry Linda; 2 brothers Gene Stanley and Jack Stanley; and a sister Carolyn Bearden.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Rev. Joel Plisek officiating, and military rites conducted by the United States Marine Corp Honor Guard. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to Wounded Warriors in care of the funeral home.
