Obituary for Herman Jiron

Herman Jiron, (Victoriano Hermines), age 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. He was born just outside of Antonito, Colorado, on April 12, 1933, the son of Ruben and Eutilia (Archuleta) Jiron.

He grew up in various places in Colorado including Cenecerio and Ordway. In the late 1950's, he moved to Johnson, Kansas, to farm with his brother-in-law, Sam Ashida. He has been a resident since then. Herman loved to draw and make various crafts and enjoyed fixing lawn mowers and various other small machines. He also enjoyed gardening and would plant a garden every year until he moved into Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson. He liked to tell stories about the old days and had a great memory.

Herman is survived by his nieces, Susan and Jerry Anderson of Johnson, Lori Ashida of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Debbie Ashida of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Audrey Puyear of Johnson; nephews, Daniel and Amber LeBlanc, Donald LeBlanc, Randy Shironaka, and Rick and Cecilia Shironaka; and many other nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Lila Ashida, Tillie Ybarra, Frances Gonzalez, Mary LeBlanc, Fracia Shironaka, and Ofelia Lovato; brothers, Ruben Jiron and Phillip Jiron; nephew, Albert Gonzalez; and niece, Terri Ashida-Fields.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 9, 2017, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Johnson, Kansas, with Reverend Peter Fernandez officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, September 8, 2017, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
