Obituary for Jonathan Batten

Jonathan Batten, 57, died Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at his home in Garden City. He was born December 15, 1959 in Tulsa, Oklahoma the son of Claude Conley & Vera Mae (Dudrey) Batten.
As a young child, Jonathan moved with his family to Lyons, Kansas. He attended Lyons schools and graduated from Lyons High School in 1978. On January 12, 1985, he married Alice Faye Bartlett in St. John, Kansas. They lived in St. John before moving to Vero Beach, Florida. While in Vero Beach, Jonathan attended the Flight Safety Academy. They returned to St. John before moving to Garden City in 1995. They have lived in Garden City since. Jonathan has worked for the past 15 years as a pilot for Eagle Med Air Ambulance. He was a member of the Church of Christ and the American Quarter Horse Association. He enjoyed, riding and training horses, trail riding, roundups, flying, and church mission trips to Mexico.
Survivors include his wife Alice Batten of the home; 2 sisters Elsie Batten & husband Stephen Walton of Clearlake Oaks, California and Marcia & husband Don Schwiethale of Springfield, Missouri; a brother Stephen & wife Tammy Batten of St. John, Kansas; and six nieces and nephews Berk Sturgeon of Petaluma, California, Keri Hailey of Springfield, Missouri, Ryan Schwiethale of Springfield, Missouri, Nathan Batten of Wichita, Kansas, Danielle Batten of St. John, Kansas, and Shawn Batten of Wichita, Kansas. Jonathan is preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Church of Christ in Garden City with Pastor Darrell Rains officiating. Jonathan requested casual attire and bright colors for those attending the service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Church of Christ or to the New Mexico Christian Children’s Home both in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
