Obituary for Jean Cook

Jean Kuykendall Cook died Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Lane County Hospital, Dighton, KS. She was born March 24, 1919 in rural Osage County along the Marais des Cygnes River on the family farmstead. Her parents were Claude & Isabel Morton Kuykendall. She attended grade school at Elkhart rural school and graduated from Osage City High School class of 1937. She attended Emporia Business College and began working for Agricultural Adjustment Administration in Osage County in 1939.
On October 27, 1941 she married Jerry L Cook in Parsons, KS. She was a secretary at Boeing Aircraft Company, Wichita, KS during the war. In 1948, she and her husband, Jerry moved their young family to Dighton, KS and started farming. In 1955 she was hired by Lane County ASCS office where she worked until 1981, accumulating a total 29 years with the USDA.
Jean was a life long member of the United Methodist Church and was on various committees and UMW. She served as financial secretary for over 40 years and Memorial secretary for 28 years.
She was an associate member of American Legion Post No. 190 of Dighton, PEO Chapter GF, Dighton, KS. Her loves were reading, current events, her friends, family and grandchildren. She was an enthusiastic supporter of exercise until the end of her life.
She is survived by a son and spouse Jay & Mary Anne Cook, Garden City, KS, a daughter and spouse, Claudette & Hugh T Campbell, Parker, CO, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, her parents and two brothers.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Dighton with Rev. Berniece Ludlum officiating. Buriall will follow at the Dighton Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church of Dighton in care of Boomhower Funeral Home of Dighton.
