Michael Serrato, age 58, of Elkhart, Kansas, died Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born July 27, 1959, in Liberal, Kansas, the son of John and Victoria (Martinez) Serrato.

Mike, a lifetime area resident, graduated from Yarborough High School in 1977. While in high school, he played football and was on the debate team. Since the age of 18, Mike worked in the oilfield industry. He held many jobs including boss and consultant. He married Deb Robertson on July 4, 1995, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Spending time with family was very important to Mike. He coached his grandkids teams in football, baseball, T-ball, and basketball. They enjoyed time together fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Mike was an avid supporter of USD 218, and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife, Deb of the home; children, Kelsie Serrato of Pampa, Texas, Tami Talbert, Shawn Talbert and Brooke White all of Elkhart; foster-father, Leon Humphrey; brothers, Joseph Serrato, Jared Humphrey, Jeremy Humphrey, Kendal Humphrey, and Kevin Humphrey; sister, Kay Kreklau; 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; nephew, Felipe Serrato, niece, Kristen Woods; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Michael is preceded in death by his parents, John and Victoria Serrato, grandparents, Luis and Jessica Serrato, Joe and Simona Alires-Martinez; sister, Mary Serrato; and foster-mothers, Janice Humphrey and Virginia Tucker.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the First Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas with Pastor Keith Davis and Pastor Jimmye Cole officiating. Interment will follow at Elkhart Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 3, 2017, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart.
