Obituary for Antone "Tony" Baier Jr.

Antone “Tony” Baier, Jr., 80, died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at his home in Garden City. He was born January 12, 1937 in Garden City the son of Antone & Eleanor (Prewo) Baier.
Tony has lived most of his life in Kearny County and Finney County, Kansas. He attended Deerfield schools and graduated from Deerfield High School. He then served in the United States Army from September 1956 to September 1959 where he served in Frankfort, Germany. After returning from the service, Tony began working for Minter Wilson Drilling and later for Century Refinery. Most of his life was dedicated to farming where he farmed in Finney County. He retired in 2006. Tony enjoyed visiting with friends at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Gardening, and raising cattle. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City; and Honorary Life member of the Knights of Columbus; a lifetime member of the VFW #2279 of Garden City; and a member of the Finney Senior Center Citizen Association.
Survivors include 4 brothers Robert & wife Charlotte Baier of Garden City, John M. Baier of Garden City, Gary & wife Sherry Baier of Holcomb, and Bill & wife Ginger Baier of Garden City; 2 sisters Mary Ann Metts of Joplin, Mo. And Dorothy Fairchild of Okmulgee, Ok.; and many nieces and nephews. Tony is preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers Albert Baier, Richard Baier, and Thomas Baier; and 2 sisters Anita Savolt and Carolyn Benton.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 9, 2017 also at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Charles Seiwert as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with military graveside rites conducted by the Kansas Army National Guard and the American Legion District #8 Honor Guards. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to St. Mary Catholic Church in care of the funeral home.
