Obituary for Shirley Ann Clanton

Garden City- Shirley Ann Clanton, 82, died on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart. She was born on May 18, 1934 at Salina the Daughter of Robert & Ruth (Mortimer) Armstrong. She married Jimmy Neal Clanton on October 18, 1953 at Salina. He died on March 6, 1988.

Shirley grew up in Salina and graduated from Ell-Saline High School. She moved to Garden City and was a longtime cook at Garden City High School. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge where she volunteered for events. She and her husband were instrumental in the formation of the Finney County Baseball Association and she served as the Secretary. She also enjoyed camping.

She is survived by 2 Sons- Jim Clanton and Lee Clanton both of Garden City, Daughter- Sheryl Cook of Houston, 2 Brothers- Bobby Armstrong of Denver, Colorado and Joe Armstrong of Hedville, 5 Sisters- Mary Laas and Jenny Shaver of Salina, Betty Hardin of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Kay Liebert of Wyoming & Charlene Walker of Lucas and 4 Grandchildren- Brad Clanton, Becky Cook, Janelle Cook & Reid Clanton. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, Son- Dean Clanton & 2 Sisters- Fern Webb & Elaine Bacon

Graveside Service will be at 11:00 AM Thursday at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City with Rev Jeff Starkey officiating. The family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Memorials are suggested to St Catherine Hospice in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
