Obituary for DeLena Maxine Francis

Deerfield- DeLena Maxine Francis, 97, died on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin. She was born on May 18, 1920 at Pennington, New Mexico the Daughter of Walter Isaac & Vera Mae (Funk) Ogle. She married Welberne Ray Francis on June 25, 1945 at Pennington, New Mexico. He died on March 27, 1973.

Maxine went thru the 9th grade at Pennington, New Mexico and then was bused to Grenville, New Mexico and graduated from Grenville High School. After her schooling she worked for NGA which was a government job and then moved to Clayton, New Mexico where she worked for Dr. W.C. Milloff and became a doctor’s assistant while her fiancé was in World War II. After her marriage they lived in Gallup, New Mexico and Clayton, New Mexico where Ray worked for Colorado Interstate Gas Company. They moved to Springfield, Colorado for 7 years before moving to Deerfield. She spent 21 years as an Assistant Cook for USD 216 in Deerfield where many of the kids knew her as “Granny”. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery & fishing. She was a Member of the First Baptist Church of Pennington and attended the United Methodist Church in Deerfield.

She is survived by 5 Sons- Gary & Susan Francis of Lakin, Rick & Victoria Francis of Lamar, Colorado, Donnie & Maria Francis of Omaha, Nebraska, Martin & Bonnie Francis of Meeker, Oklahoma and Tommie Francis of Garden City, 1 Daughter- Raelene & Gary Allison of Ashland, 12 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, 3 Brothers- Arnold McClure, Walter “Dude” Ogle & Dan Ogle and 2 Sisters- Fanny Kate Garcia & Ethel Hill.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Deerfield with Rev Doug Olson officiating. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to United Methodist Church or High Plains Retirement Village in care of Garnand Funeral Home. Calling Hours are from Noon to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com
