Obituary for Delores E. Long

Delores E. Long, 97, died Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. She was born January 18, 1920 in Courtland, Kansas the daughter of Martin A. & Hannah L. (Peterson) Larson.
Delores grew up in Courtland, Kansas where she attended school and graduated from high school. She then moved to Topeka, Kansas where she graduated from the Stewart Beauty Academy. She then worked as a beauty operator for several years. In 1952, she moved to Garden City. A homemaker, Delores later worked at the Finney County Public Library for 28 years. She was a member of the Community Congregational Church of Garden City, a Sunday School teacher for many years, and served as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts. Delores enjoyed music, reading, crossword puzzles, baking, playing cards, and she loved spending time with her family and friends.
On June 12, 1940, Delores married Ben F. Long in Topeka, Kansas. He died September 3, 2004. Delores is also preceded in death by a son Gary Long; and 6 sisters Myrtle Nondorf, Delpha Grim, Mary Smith, Edna Dickie, Edyth Coleman, & Wilma Butler. Survivors include 2 sons Brian & wife Nancy Long of Garden City and Danny Long of Garden City; a sister Winifred Kruger of Topeka, Kansas; 5 Grandchildren; 15 Great-Grandchildren; and 1 Great Great-Granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Pastor Jeff Starkey officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Monday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. The family suggests memorials given to the Community Congregational Church in care of the funeral home.
