Obituary for Eloise Mae Thomas

Dighton- Eloise Mae Thomas, 86, died on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at her home in Dighton.
She was born on September 28, 1930 in rural Rose Hill, the daughter of Earl and Esther (Hall)
Showalter.
While attending Kansas State University she met Marion Tracy Thomas. They married on
August 18, 1949 and lived in Manhattan and Weskan, Kansas before moving to their Dighton
home in 1953.
A loving wife and a devoted mother, Eloise was a dedicated parent volunteer for many school
functions. She was a long-standing member of the As You Like It Club, participated in the TOPS
(Take Off Pounds Sensibly) organization. Additionally she enjoyed spending time with her
Prairie Rose Red Hat friends. She was a member of the United Methodist Church where she
loved serving in the Women’s ministry.
For many years she enjoyed tending to her gardens at home and on their farm. Her cooking and
baking skills were savored by all of her family. She liked traveling and loved watching her
grandchildren participate in school activities. She treasured time with her family and friends.
Reading was her pastime, she could be found working a crossword puzzle, and there was always
time for Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and TV sports.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Tracy of over 45 years, son-
Russell Earl Thomas, infant daughter- Rachelle Marie Thomas, brother- Donald Showalter,
sister- Carolyn Sheets and granddaughter- Jessica Thomas Scott.
Survivors include her four children- Rebecca Stormont (Marc), Randall Thomas (Millie),
Rodney Thomas & Richard Thomas, 8 grandchildren- Lauri Sanders (Justin), Brenda Seliskar
(Jason), Erin Vargas, Stacey Heckathorne (Ryan), Lariessa Garcia, Zachary Thomas, Marcy
Thomas & Trevor Thomas and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 24 at the United Methodist Church
in Dighton with Rev Berniece Ludlum officiating. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial
Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Lane County Library, United Methodist Church or St
Catherine Hospice Comfort Zone in care of Boomhower Funeral Home. Condolences may be
