Fred L. Landess, age 88, of Elkhart, Kansas died Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born August 11, 1929 in Texas County, Oklahoma the son of Lewis and Jessie (Grant) Landess.

Fred grew up in Elkhart and graduated from Elkhart High School. Fred attended Lamar Junior College and was a graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO. He was the pastor of Bible Baptist Church.

Fred married Dortha Messenger Bauer on June 23, 2008 in Clovis, New Mexico. She survives. He was previously married to Ruby Landess the mother of his children, and Lynn Landess who preceded him in death on August 20, 2007.

Other survivors include his children; Kristi Rudes, Mark Landess and wife Lori, Michael Landess and wife Missy and Jenni Downing and husband Harry. Two step-children; Vicky and husband Stan Mathes, and, Shelly and husband Jessie Johnson. Grandchildren; Joshua Landess and wife Brittany, Trever Landess and wife Kara, Abby Goins and husband L.J., Jessica and Geoffrey Mason, Augustine, Maggie, and Madeline Landess, Ellsworth Downing, Zackery Downing and wife Katie, Reid and Stuart Downing; Brian and Derek Mathes and Matthew Johnson. Great-grandchildren; Madyson, Branson, Reagan and Briar Landess.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings; Suzie Brown, Doris Stewart, Carnie Murray and Henry Landess.

Funeral service will be held Friday, December 1, 2017 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Elkhart, Kansas with Pastor Ed Richards officiating. Burial will follow at Elkhart Cemetery, Elkhart, Kansas. Visitation will be Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be given to the Fred L.
