Obituary for Dean Glasscock

Clarence Dean Glasscock, age 78, of Johnson, Kansas, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Stanton County Hospital in Johnson, Kansas. He was born in Sulfer Springs, Arkansas, on November 22, 1939, the youngest of eight siblings, the son of Virgil and Florence (Huff) Glasscock.

Dean grew up in Arkansas and moved to Johnson in December of 1957. He married Dollie Kistler on December 27, 1959, and they raised three wonderful children in Johnson. Dean spent a few years in the United States Army and worked for a short time at Western Feed Yard. He worked 53 years for Winger Land and Cattle in Stanton County. The last few years, he also farmed for M&G Farms. Dean was an avid fan of horse racing and baseball. He could many times be found reading the horse circuit newsletter and knew the best trainers and blood lines. Dean was locally famous for a nasty curveball and loved to demonstrate to his kids how hard he could throw.

Dean is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dollie; their three children, Debra LaPorte and husband Joe, David Glasscock, and Donna Collins and husband Charles; four grandchildren, Eric Collins and wife Amy, Brooke Walker and husband Kevin, Mandee Collins, and Rae Lynn Holte and husband Samuel; five great-grandchildren, Maddy Collins, Karsen Walker, Kyren Walker, Kruze Walker, and Chloe Benc; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Alex Carrasco.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Glasscock, Frank Glasscock, Jack Barnett; and sisters, Margaret Welde and Betty Henderson.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 15, 2017, at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas, with Charles Collins officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas, with military graveside rites by Johnson VFW Post #3684. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson. Memorial contributions may be given to the Wounded Warriors Project in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
