Obituary for Gretchen J. Gee

Gretchen J. Gee, age 76, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Friday, January 5, 2018, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses. She was born July 26, 1941, in Hooker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Levien John and Velma Jean (Mathews) Herbel.

Throughout her life, Gretchen worked at the Hutch clothing shop in Ulysses, worked as a secretary at the Ulysses Chamber of Commerce and worked with her husband as a bookkeeper and partner in their potato farming business. Gretchen was the “President of Ping Court” and former president of the Bentwood Ladies Golf Association. She was a pianist and was an accompanist while attending Grant County Rural High school. She enjoyed teaching piano lessons, crossword puzzles, reading and playing golf.

Gretchen married Larry Gee on December 27, 1958 in Ulysses, Kansas. He preceded her in death on March 15, 2013.

Gretchen is survived by two daughters; Tammy Oliver and husband Ben and Stacey Gee and companion Sharlene May all of Ulysses, Kansas, two grandchildren; Trace Oliver of Macon, Georgia and Taryn Oliver of Manhattan, Kansas and one great-grandchild; Kendall Oliver of Macon, Georgia.

Gretchen is preceded in death by her parents and Husband; Larry Gee.

Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Todd Guinn and Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Inurnment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to Bentwood Golf Course in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
