Garden City- Elsie Harper, 91, died on Friday, January 5, 2018 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on October 21, 1926 at Barnet, Middlesex, England the daughter of Samuel Sidney & Amelia Sufanah (Drewell) Moffett. She married Captain Garlyn William Harper on August 23, 1947 at Schonbrunn Palace, Vienna, Austria. He died in May of 1993.
Elsie had to quit school to go to work in a factory to help with the war efforts during World War II. She lived around London, England until her marriage. Her husband was a career military man so they lived in multiple places. She volunteered for the Red Cross working in the Pharmacy, loved to gamble at casinos, play bridge and board games. She was a member of the base chapel on any post they were stationed at. After her husband’s retirement they settled in Colorado Springs and later moved to Garden City to be near family.
She is survived by her Son- Rodney Harper of Garden City, Daughter- Sandra Harvey of Summerville, South Carolina, Sister- Nellie Eighteen of Tiverton, Devon, England, 2 Grandsons- Michael Harvey of John’s Island, South Carolina & Richard Harvey of Dunkirk, New York, 3 Granddaughters- Rae Harper, Rox Ann Harper & Roz Jordan of Garden City, 2 Great-Grandsons- Ayden Harvey & Tatum Harvey of Dunkirk, New York & Great-Granddaughter- Alana Harvey of John’s Island, South Carolina.
Graveside Service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. In recognition of Elsie’s favorite color guests may wear purple to the service.
