Josephine Humphrey, 92, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Wesley Acres Nursing Home in Des Moines, Iowa. She was born October 27, 1925 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma the daughter of Walter & Martha (Foster) Robinson.
Josephine was one of five children who grew up in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. On November 21, 1942, she married LeRoy Humphrey in Okmulgee. They moved to Garden City in 1955. She was a housewife and homemaker. Josephine was a member of the Church of God in Christ and was an active member in her church. She was a devoted and dedicated mother and grandmother. Josephine met no strangers and was a mother and a friend to many others outside of her family. She loved fishing, sewing, gardening, and cooking.
Survivors include 3 daughters Ruth Evelyn Augmon of Kansas City, Kansas, Sandra Joyce Fells of Kansas City, Kansas, and Gloria Ann Miller of Des Moines, Iowa; 2 sons Roy Edward Humphrey of Garden City, Kansas and Tyrone Douglas of Garden City, Kansas; a sister Shirlene Moore of Kansas City, Kansas; 9 Grandchildren; 22 Great-Grandchildren; and 10 Great Great-Grandchildren. Josephine is preceded in death by her husband LeRoy who died on August 4, 1986. She is also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter Pamela Jo; a son Walter Prentis; 2 brothers Frederick and Willie; and a sister Berniece Butler.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. to service time Friday all at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City.
